Check out my recent guest blog for “A World to Travel” detailing the 5 BEST underrated places to view the cherry blossoms in Japan without the crowds.
In this guest article, I’ll take you from Hiroshima to Hokkiado to find the best cherry blossom spots for hanami (picnicking under the cherry blossom trees) without hordes of tourists trampling this otherwise celebratory and sacred ritual.
By visiting less over-traveled places, you have the power to help negate the impacts of overtourism–like overcrowding, environmental impacts, cultural degradation, and more–and spread the economic benefits of tourism to new destinations. You’ll find that many of these places, like the tranquil flowering island of Mijajima, or the tropical lemon island of Setoda, are conveniently located near major tourist hubs, but not nearly as popular.
I was SO excited to write this guest feature to share some of the places in Japan that are special to me. If you love local experiences and hate crowds, you’ll love this article! Be sure to bookmark it for your next trip to Japan.
