Check out my recent guest blog for A World to Travel detailing my favorite underrated places to view Japan’s cherry blossoms without the crowds!
In this guest article, I’ll take you from Hiroshima to Hokkiado to find the best cherry blossom spots for hanami (picnicing under the cherry blossom trees) without thousands of tourists trampling this otherwise celebratory and sacred ritual.
Visiting less-traveled places can help reduce the negative impacts of over tourism—overcrowding, environmental damage, and cultural loss—while spreading tourism’s economic benefits to new destinations! You’ll find that many of these places, like the tranquil flowering island of Miyajima, or the tropical lemon island of Setoda, are conveniently located near major tourist hubs, but not nearly as popular.
I was thrilled to write this guest feature to share some of the places in Japan that are special to me. If you love local experiences and hate crowds, be sure to bookmark it for your next trip to Japan!
