Cappadocia, Turkey may not be at the top of your travel bucket list, but it should be! It’s a magical place for solo travel (and group travel) and is unlike anywhere I’ve been before. Perhaps one of the most unique things about Cappadocia is that much of the town was carved out of the mountains, so many of the hotels are in CAVES- seriously! In this blog, I’ll tell you everything about my stay at the best cave hotel in Cappadocia, Henna Hotel! This one is special.
Cappadocia is the collection of 5 main villages between Kayseri and Aksaray in Turkey. Aside from its incredible history — including stunning evidence of several early civilizations in one place (Hittites, Persians, Romans, Christians, Byzantines, Turks, and Ottomans) — Cappadocia’s dramatic, otherworldly landscape (more like moonscape tbh) is like nothing you’ve ever seen.

Luscious valleys overgrown with pistachios, asparagus, and blackberries wind around babbling rivers in micro-Mediterranean climate zones. Meanwhile, sprawling underground cities, like Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı, protected ancient civilizations from Alexander the Great’s invading armies and can still be toured today! Cappadocia is one of the world’s oldest wine growing regions, and Göreme National Park has infatuating fairy chimneys, dream-like volcanic rock cave formations that earned it the designation of UNESCO World Heritage site.
These landscapes actually inspired Tatooine, the desert planet on the Outer Rim that was home to Luke Skywalker.
But if you’ve heard of Cappadocia before, what you’ve seen is the hot air balloons. And what an amazing way to see the incredibly unique landscapes of Rose, Love, and Red Valleys!
So are you wondering where to stay in Cappadocia? Obviously inside of a CAVE!
Henna Hotel is a boutique cave hotel with 400 year old caves renovated into spacious rooms and spa-like bathrooms.
It has panoramic views of the valley, volcano, village, and hot air balloons from a stunning rooftop terrace. There’s even a wood fired hot tub and a full Turkish breakfast included with your stay every morning!
Check in and out couldn’t have been easier, and Henna hotel is a 30 second walk from the front door down to the main part of Göreme village, so the proximity can’t be beat!
If you’re looking for an absolutely STUNNING budget stay, book Henna Hotel here. You won’t regret it!
I started every morning early enjoying the free Turkish breakfast on the roof of the hotel, which is a dreamy, open air space where you can enjoy tea, coffee, and breakfast while balloons float by.

Down large stone hallways and up spiral staircases, you’ll find STUNNING multi-purpose rooms like these, where I spent time journaling, watching the sunset, or even catching up on a little work (the hotel has free wifi throughout!).

There’s NEVER a bad time to enjoy the hotel rooftop, with its plush pillows, ornate rungs, and spectacular views.

Every little detail of this unique hotel was perfect- it has the feeling of a boutique luxury desert resort with cultural art and design touches, but without the luxury price tag!

Take a dip in the wood fired hot tub, just one floor down from the roof. It overlooks the village and the valley and is a relaxing, quiet spot for sunset.

It goes without saying, but Cappadocia is a once in a lifetime destination like no other. Don’t miss out on all the surrounding activities- explore underground tunnels used during the Byzantine empire (including one of the world’s oldest known wine cellars!), the Uchisar Castle (pictured below!), the Goreme Open Air Museum, and of course hot air ballooning and horeseback riding in Rose Valley at sunrise!
